nitsa

My name Nitsa is derived from a Greek name meaning light.

I have always been passionate about all forms of dance. In particular I enjoy dancing belly and ballroom. Both allow me to explore the classical, flowing forms of dancing as well as the more challenging earthy, strong styles, such as drumming and the tango.

As a teenager I enjoyed learning and dancing Greek folk dances. My interest in ballroom dancing started when my grandfather tried to dance the foxtrot with me at a wedding – I was hopeless! A marketing call from Arthur Murray Dance Studio gave me the opportunity to learn to ballroom dance. Twenty years later and I’m still dancing! I take part in showcases which gives me the opportunity to show everyone what I can do and hopefully those watching me will enjoy it and be inspired to come and try ballroom for themselves.

Yoga is another form of exercise which I have enjoyed for many years and find that it helps to strengthen and tone the muscles. I incorporate my knowledge of yoga in my belly classes.

In 2004 I started belly dancing. As a teacher it is very rewarding to see a student who thought she would never “get it right” suddenly discover that she is floating across the floor. Belly allows one to discover “the other woman” inside of you.

My motto is: Enjoy each day and forget about what was and what will be.
